Democratic Age

On April 23, 1850, the world saw the death of major Romantic poet, William Wordsworth. His passing marked the end of the great period of Romanticism in Britain, though tributaries of this major current in literature and music would continue on the Continent and in American Romanticism and Transcendentalism. Its repercussions can be felt strongly to the present day, not only in writing, art, and music, but through the period of nationalism in the mid-to-late 19th century that Romanticism helped engender.
